Hello everyone I am Eiko! I am from Sendai, Japan, where the massive earthquake hit in 2011. My appreciation for home-cooked food was developed through the experience of eating simple meals in the candle light with my family during the frequent earthquake aftershocks. Although the food was simple, it was made complete by my family’s presence – we were warm, safe and together. I have been in Singapore’s F&B industry for over 10 years. Now, I cook for my family and guests who enjoy my food. My friends are always waiting for my invitation and it touches me when they say ‘this is it!’ after a meal.
The place we feel safe.
I will be presenting dishes made in the traditional Japanese bento style usually served during events. In Japan, bento is prepared in a family style and shared during occasions such as hanami (flower viewing) where families would picnic under the stunning cherry blossoms. We also prepare bento during school events such as our children’s sports day and festive celebrations like the New Year. Bento is always associated with gatherings and is a way for people to come together and create happy, joyful memories. I hope that you will enjoy this way of sharing with me this August!
